Google Chrome Officially And Finally Lands On Android – Download Now!

It is finally, finally here, folks! Google has just announced and released Chrome for Android. It’s everything you love about Chrome on your desktop, now in mobile form. We are very excited about this piece of news as we are big, big fans of Google Chrome here at Redmond Pie. Details and download link available after the jump!
Chrome for Android beta
The news comes straight from the Google Chrome Blog in the form of an announcement post in which they discuss Chrome for Android, its features, its “beta” tag and future development.
From Google Chrome Blog:
Today, we’re introducing Chrome for Android Beta, which brings many of the things you’ve come to love about Chrome to your Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone or tablet. Like the desktop version, Chrome for Android Beta is focused on speed and simplicity, but it also features seamless sign-in and sync so you can take your personalized web browsing experience with you wherever you go, across devices.
We’ve had very little playtime with Chrome for Android on our Galaxy Nexus, but we were left totally floored. There is, however, good news and bad news. We’ll discuss the good news first:
It is smooth as butter/silk, supports tabs, comes with the ability to completely synchronize with Chrome on the desktop (more on that in a bit) and comes with an Incognito Mode. Because it is apparently feature-incomplete, Google has labeled it as a “beta” app and is looking forward to feedback from the vibrant developer community to help make Chrome for Android even better.
Chrome Screens
The one feature that makes Chrome for Android so very special is its tight integration with Chrome on the desktop. If you’re signed in to the same account on both your desktop and your smartphone/tablet, you can see the tabs you left open, get smarter suggestions and, of course, sync bookmarks!
Chrometablet
Chrome for Android is available for free and can be downloaded for free from the link embedded below.
Now, about the bad news; Chrome for Android only works on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Yes, yes, we know, only 1% of Android users have a device with Ice Cream Sandwich so this is a big limitation. Then again, we believe the guys over at XDA-Developers will be able to port Chrome to older versions of Android. We’ll have the link when its ready.

Samsung Introduces New Android Powered Galaxy Beam Smartphone With Built-in Projector

Considering that Samsung have been experiencing a little bit of ridicule recently thanks to the release of the monstrous Galaxy Note, which by the way features a stylus, they could do with introducing something publicly appealing at this years Mobile World Conference in Barcelona. The Korean company was widely predicted to be all quiet on the new product front at MWC due to the fact that they don’t have any official press events planned and that they actually pulled out on launching the Galaxy S3 at the event in favor of delaying for a more worldwide universal launch.
However, they have managed to shock us by introducing the Samsung Galaxy Beam smartphone which is a refreshed version of the original projector based handset but with the latest version packing some serious specification upgrades. The Galaxy Beam is able to boast a very decent specification packed into a 4-inch WVGA display. The internals of the phone host a dual-core ST-Ericsson Cortex A9 processor with 768MB of RAM which doesn’t represent a ground breaking device, but at the end of the day the device will be judged on its main feature – the built in projector.
The internal project, located at the top of the device, makes use of a 640 x 360 resolution with a 15 lumen brightness and able to project an image that can be up to 50 inches wide. The projector will come in particularly handy for those who wish to share images or videos with friends or family, work based information with colleagues in a meeting or even just play your favorite game in 50 glorious inches instead of the built in 4 inch display. The handset itself is a stunning 12.5mm thick giving it the title of the world’s thinnest projector phone, although to be fair, it doesn’t really have a great deal of competition on that front.

Samsung have done a great job of managing to house the all important projector in a manner which doesn’t detract from the aesthetics of the phone and actually manages to remain attractive in appearance. However, Engadget notes that the project doesn’t feature any recess around it and therefore could be a bit of a fingerprint magnet, so be prepared to wipe it clean before you start to beam those images around the office.
Galaxy Beam
The device will come with a decent 8GB of internal storage which should allow plenty of images and videos to be stored, allowing good use of the projector. It will also come shipped with Android 2.3 but as yet we have no official details of when the Galaxy Beam will be available to the world. From the released images of the Beam, it actually looks like a very accomplished smartphone and we are definitely looking forward to checking this one out in person.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 will come with Android 4.0

The Galaxy Note 10.1 will come with Android 4.0 installed as default and will work alongside Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface, powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 10.1 inch touchscreen which Samsung is describing as "immersive". Immersive it may well be, but unfortunately it isn’t the high-definition screen which tablet users have been gasping for, which means we can probably expect another release from Samsung in the coming months.
With the Galaxy Note 10.1 featuring the exact same cameras found in the Galaxy Tab 10.1, our friends over at BGR seem to have hit the nail on the head with their thoughts that this release seems to be nothing more than a redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 with an improved processor and the rather bizarre introduction of the S Pen stylus. If this is the case, and Samsung do intend to release an additional tablet sometime this year with a high-definition display, it would seem a rather fruitless use of money to purchase the Galaxy Note 10.1 considering the estimated shelf life of the product.
But, that isn’t the only product Samsung have announced. They have also taken the opportunity to bring the Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 to the public eye, which is another Androidpowered device aimed at providing an enhanced gaming experience. With their SoundAlive audio system, a 1GHz processor and built-in gyroscope sensors, Samsung is hoping that the Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2 will provide an engaging and intuitive gaming experience.

How To Install And Run Android 4.0 On Mac, Windows PC Or Linux [Tutorial]

The mobile smartphone and tablet industry seems to have a very prominent divide, with a lot of consumers having their favorite operating system and choosing to stick to hardware which is powered by their chosen OS. Obviously fans of Apple’s iOS use the iPhone and iPad devices, whereas Android lovers have a wide range of hardware to choose from due to the fact that the OS is available to multiple manufacturers.
But what happens if you are a die hard fan of iOS, or Windows Phone but you still want to sample the delights that Android Ice Cream Sandwich has to offer? I personally am an iPhoneuser for the last five years and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. But after recently getting my first taste of Android, I am severely tempted to shell out for a second device so I can have the benefits that both provide. For those that can’t, or won’t, purchase a second device then why not run Android 4.0 in virtualization on your desktop or laptop in order to see the Ice Cream Sandwich experience first hand?
Android 4.0 is an operating system in its own right, but instead of running on a dual boot setup, we install and run ICS within a free of charge virtualization application known as VirtualBox. VirtualBox runs like any other application or program on your machine, but offers the benefits of being able to install a secondary OS within it which can be invoked quickly by the user. For all those die hard iOS and Windows Phone fans out there, this is a perfect way to experience the delights of Android.
Are you ready for a whirlwind journey down Ice Cream Sandwich lane? Buckle in and follow the simple steps below.
Step 1: Head over to the official Oracle VM VirtualBox site and download the relevant VirtualBox binary for your computers operating system (Windows/Mac OS X/Linux/Solaris).
Step 2: Find the saved location of the downloaded VirtualBox binary and install as you would with any other native application making sure to follow all on screen prompts and instructions.
Step 3: Head on over to the VMLite website and download a copy of the Ice Cream Sandwich which has been preconfigured for virtualization and features seamless mouse support for navigation. The download weighs in at 88MB in size so may take a while to download depending on your connection.
Step 4: Locate the downloaded ‘Android-v4.7z‘ file and extract the contents from within.
Step 5: Once the Android-v4.7z file has been opened, locate a file from within the archive called ‘Android-v4.vbox‘ which as you can tell by the file extension is a pre configured VirtualBox file.
Step 6: Double click on the Android-v4.vbox file which will load the VirtualBox application and boot up the ICS file.
Step 7: When the boot menu is presented in VirtualBox, press ‘start‘ on the top toolbar and then if required select the ‘Android Startup from /dev/sda‘ option.
Step 8: All steps are complete. Android 4.0 ICS should now be booting up allowing you to enjoy that Android goodness.
Windows and Linux users may find that an alternative, specific version Android 4.0 may be required, which can be found by visting the Android-x86 page. The performance of the Android ICS virtual installation will obviously not be as smooth as intended on an actual device built for purpose, but it does give a feel of the OS with apps being able to launch as well as widget customization.

Full Specifications Of The Samsung Galaxy S III: 1.5GHz Quad-Core Processor, 1080p Display With New Ceramic Case

Galaxy S 3 Logo
We have recently brought some news regarding the Samsung Galaxy S III handset, which was originally set to be announced and shown off at this year’s Mobile World Congress which is happening in Barcelona as we speak. However, Samsung decided not to showcase the new handset at the MWC, instead opting to delay the announcement amid rumors that they wanted to unify a global launch date for the device which could happen in as many as fifty countries or cities in one go.

Regardless of how Samsung decide to play it, we have it on good authority that it could be launched on various South African networks as soon as June of this year, but the guys over at BGR have published details of the technical specifications of the device to keep those Samsung and Android fans happy in the interim. The detailed specifications paint quite a promising picture, looking likely to have Android fans salivating and could even convince a few die hards from other mobile operating systems to jump ship and give the S III a try.

So just what does Samsung have in store for us smartphone fans? Check out the details below, but be prepared to salivate:

4.8 inch, full HD 1080P resolution display with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor.
A front facing, 2 megapixel camera for video calling as well as an 8 megapixel rear camera.
A brand new ceramic case as has previously been reported.
4G LTE connectivity.
Pre-installed with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
As you can see, it makes for pretty impressive reading, meaning that the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone will most definitely make a huge impact when released and will more than likely provide some impressive sales figures for Samsung come the second half of the financial year. The inclusion of a full high-definition display on a smartphone of this caliber is a very exciting prospect and will take mobile media to a whole new level.

We had already been aware that the device could feature an all-ceramic rear casing, which is a very interesting choice of materials, but one of the issues with the S II handset was the fact that it didn’t feel high ‘quality’ to the touch, which is sure to be eradicated with this new design of the S III smartphone.
